Strawberry
These red jewel-like fruits are packed with folate, manganese, vitamin C and fibre, making them good for you as well as tasting delicious. Did you know on average a strawberry has 200 seeds, and that there are many strawberry varieties available, especially over early summer when the English strawberry season is at its best. The shape, texture and taste can vary widely - why not try them out. You might be surprised. If you are especially lucky, you may come across the Woodland or Alpine strawberry, a tiny wild strawberry, with a different flavour much prized by gourmets.
To enjoy them at their best, strawberries should be eaten as soon as possible after picking, leaving the green hulls on for as long as possible. Expose them to as little water as possible, as they absorb it, and don't store in the fridge, as they lose flavour and fragrance.
