Blueberry
Blueberries are grown on bushes, found wild in many temperate countries where the required high rainfall and acidic soils are found. Originating in North America they are widely grown and cultivated there, and in Canada, as well as in Europe, where they were introduced in the 1930s. The fruits follow the small, unremarkable flowers, starting off small and green, before turning blue-black and developing a light bloom. Inside are tiny edible seeds. The berries can vary from sweet to slightly tart. They don't ripen any further once picked. Great as a snack, fresh, dried or incorporated into juice or desserts.
Blueberries are good sources of manganese, vitamins C and K, with antioxidants.
